RX400h Voted 'Most Anticipated Hybrid'
Automotive.com, a leading Internet automotive marketing company,
announced Lexus RX400h as the winner of the "Most Anticipated Hybrid"
car of 2005. After months of voting and tallying over 200,000 votes
submitted by consumers in the Automotive.com 2nd annual Consumer
Choice Awards, Lexus was number one.
"With a flurry of new hybrid models being introduced this year this is
a market segment that is really heating up," said Jason Phillips,
vice-president of Automotive.com. "The demand for alternative fuel
vehicles keeps doubling year after year."
Voted as the most anticipated hybrid of 2005, the new Lexus RX400h
represents an advancement of hybrid technology to its highest level,
befitting Lexus' claim of having the world's first luxury hybrid.
Thanks to three electric motors and a high-capacity battery, the
268-horsepower RX400h can claim 30 MPG in city driving while
accelerating to 60 MPH in under seven seconds -- an impossible
combination for a conventional SUV. The sophistication of Lexus'
hybrid technology allows the RX400h to be driven without the gas
engine for long periods of time, ensuring silent, gas-free operation.
Fast, frugal, and friendly to the Earth all at once, the new RX400h is
the most noteworthy hybrid to receive this award. |
RX400h Frequently
Asked Questions |
How fuel efficient are they? How much
will I really save on gas?
Hybrids are very fuel efficient relative to conventional vehicles. In
city driving, they use less gas because the electric motor is doing
much of the work. Also, in the case of the Lexus hybrid technology,
when the vehicle comes to a stop, the gas engine automatically shuts
off. Though driving conditions vary significantly from driver to
driver - greatly affecting actual fuel economy - on average, Lexus
hybrid technology offers much better fuel economy than similar
conventionally powered vehicles.
What will be the price for the RX hybrid?
Lexus has not announced an MSRP yet. They will announce that figure
closer to the vehicle's launch.
Will the Lexus hybrid be SULEV rated (Super-Ultra-Low-Emission
Vehicle)?
Yes, the Lexus hybrid is SULEV certified.
What make/models now exist?
There are several hybrids out on the market, but none from the luxury
manufacturers.
How many Lexus hybrid vehicles does Lexus expect to sell annually?
Lexus has not announced a sales target yet. They will announce that
number closer to the vehicle's launch.
How long will Lexus make hybrids?
Though some critics claim hybrids will go away soon, Lexus will
continue to invest in hybrid technology because they believe it is the
next great advancement in automobiles. Many leading automotive experts
predict that hybrid technology will spread across all segments and
into virtually all types of passenger vehicles. Manufacturers make
(and stop making) vehicles based on customer demand. Once customers
experience the power, fuel economy, reduced emissions, versatility,
convenience and (in the case of Lexus) the luxury of a hybrid, there
will be no turning back.
What will the fuel economy numbers be for the Lexus hybrid vehicle?
Lexus will be giving more detailed information and specs closer to the
vehicle on sale date.
Are hybrids safe? Will they withstand collision impact? Is there
any danger from the battery?
Lexus engineers have spent enormous effort to ensure our hybrid
vehicles meet or exceed all of the U.S. government's stringent safety
standards, as do all Lexus vehicles.
If I run out of gas, can I use electricity to drive the car?
No. Though Lexus hybrid technology allows the vehicle to operate on
electric power at slow speeds when gasoline is in the tank, it is not
designed to run without gasoline. Doing so could cause severe damage
to the hybrid system, so drivers should be sure to keep gas in the
tank at all times, just like a conventional vehicle.
How long does the hybrid battery last?
The hybrid battery is covered by warranty for 8 years/100,000 miles,
whichever comes first. In normal use, Lexus expects the battery to
last longer than the length of the warranty.

[2] Lexus Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) is an
electronic system designed to help the driver maintain vehicle
control under adverse conditions. It is not a substitute for safe
driving practices. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver
steering input can all affect whether VDIM will be effective in
preventing a loss of control. Please see your Owner's Manual for

the benefits of ABS. It is not a substitute for safe driving

maintenance and tire and road conditions. |
